Los Angeles, U.S.A.

Sunny side up

Paradise Cove

Public transportation in Los Angeles is no bed of roses – with this in mind, the first thing I did in LA was rent a nice car. Fully fitted, I started my ride along the beautiful coast to Malibu’s Paradise Cove. After a longish walk at the beach I decided to stay for brunch at Bob Morris’ Beach Cafe and had some lobster eggs benedict.

The next thing on my agenda was the Getty Center, up in the hills. Besides the art collection, the whole complex with its white buildings designed by architect Richard Meier was very impressive. The view over the city from the garden was just the icing on the cake.

Later I met my good friend Caitlin at the Chateau Marmont. After watching Sofia Coppola’s movie “Somewhere”, I had always wanted to go there and was full of excitement about which celebrity we might spot during lunch.

Unfortunately pool access was for hotel guests only, but just around the corner was the pool of the Standard Hotel waiting for me to jump in. There I spent most of the afternoon having drinks and enjoying the sun.

After that perfect day I went to my absolute favorite fast food chain in California – In-N-Out Burger. Contrary to other fast food chains, every burger is made fresh and the meat’s never been frozen at In-N-Out.

Conscious that I couldn’t leave the country without this treat, I indulged myself with a delicious cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake.
