Valentine's Special

Paris streets on Valentine's day

I know, I know: Valentine’s Day is the cheesiest day of the year! But “go big or go home”, as they say – that’s why I travelled to the city of love and checked in at Hotel Amour. Located in the Pigalle area, Hotel Amour used to be a house of pleasure until graffiti artist Monsieur André turned it into a lovely little boutique hotel. The rooms, all individually designed, are each based on a specific theme and the bathtub is always visible from the bed, so you had better choose your roommate wisely…

For breakfast, I went to Holybelly, currently one of the more popular breakfast spots. For a grumpy morning person like me, waiting for more than an hour could have been quite a challenge, but I tried to make the best of it by grabbing a cup of coffee and paying a visit to the pretty shops in the area.

Reinvigorated after a gigantic breakfast and in a much better mood, I was ready for the usual Paris shopathon. Aside from the regulars like Sandro, Maison Kitsuné, Manoush, A.P.C. and Maje, I discovered a new label called Harmony. In between all the beautiful pieces, there it was – the perfect-fitting trench coat I had been looking for for so long! Exhausted but happy, I just had to treat myself to a little sugar rush in the form of rainbow-coloured macarons at Ladurée.

In order to get my cultural fix, I decided to visit my favourite contemporary art museum, the Palais de Tokyo. It’s worth a visit not only for the art but also for the magnificent outdoor area with its perfect view of the Eiffel Tower: quite the memorable experience at dusk.

Running late as usual, I had to hurry back to the hotel for my Valentine’s dinner. I adored our table in the restaurant’s beautifully furnished tropical greenhouse, which my date must have booked well in advance. A three-course dinner with plenty of champagne and followed by even more drinks meant that the short journey to bed was a real blessing…
